One Day Rock Climbing Courses

We offer introductory to advanced climbing courses to meet your rock climbing goals at Smith Rock State Park, located near Terrebone, Oregon. Our One Day Rock Climbing Courses are a great way to experience rock climbing for the first time or on a limited time schedule. Our climbing guides have an intimate knowledge of Smith Rock and can choose the climb that is perfect for you or your group.  Join us for an individual course or schedule several to follow the natural progression of learning how to climb outdoors.

Basic Rock Climbing CourseBasic Rock Course at Smith Rock

Basic rock climbing technique such as body position and foot work as well as belaying, rappelling, and rope management are all covered in this entry-level rock climbing course with a heavy emphasis on getting in lots of fun climbing.

Recommended for those who have either never climbed before or have only climbed once or twice.

Offered: April 21, May 12, June 9, July 21, July 28, Aug. 4, Aug. 18, Sept. 1, Sept. 15, Sept. 22, Sept. 29, Oct. 6, Oct. 13.
Cost: $125 per climber for a group of 2 or more.

 

Intermediate Rock Climbing Course

You will further hone your climbing skills by climbing longer and more difficult routes. We will study anchor systems in depth and the use of various types of protection. The finale is a multi-pitch climb.

Offered: April 22, May 13, June 10, July 22, July 29, Aug. 5, Aug. 19, Sept. 2, Sept. 16, Sept. 23, Sept. 30, Oct. 7, Oct. 14.
Cost: $125 per climber for a group of 2 or more.

One Day Lead Climbing Course

This course has been designed to teach the basics of lead climbing. You will learn how to rack and carry gear efficiently, sling protection to avoid rope drag, protect traverses, and select stances for placing protection.

Cost: $150 per climber for a group of 2 or more, limited to 2 climbers.
 

Self Rescue CourseMulti-pitch sport climbing at Smith Rock

This course is designed to enable climbers to deal with unexpected trouble on longer routes. Self sufficiency is important in all adventure sports and is particularly important in climbing.

Offered: Dates arranged on request.
Cost: $250/day (1 climber), $150/day (2 climbers), $125/day (3 climbers), $100/day (4 or more climbers).

Aid Climbing Course

Learn the basics of this mechanical and sometimes confusing aspect of rock climbing. You will learn clean aid techniques as well as different methods of following aid pitches.

Cost: $250/day (1 climber), $150/day (2 climbers), $125/day (3 climbers), $100/day (4 or more climbers).
